Common Kingfisher – Karnala

August 16th,2024

Samadhan has now setup another hide, this time for a common kingfisher.
Ive been to his ODKF hide now for a few times. Although a very exotic bird, I wanted to shoot someting different this time. One gets tired of only Paneer and Chicken, I want some normal dal rice eventually. Common Kingfisher being my dal rice !

The hide is a bit of a walk into the forest, up a small hill. It was super to do a short hike with a big backpack. I loved the hike through the forest and the hide location.

Hide Location

My fav shots happen when I am waiting on the location. This one below is one

And the regular shot.

The exit from the nest shots are hard. The left/ first image is shot with my Z50 50-250mm lens. I love that Z50 and the one on the right/ below, I missed the focus with my 600mm which was pre focused. That bird is fast, very fast exiting the nest. Next time I will rent a Nikon Z9 and try this again.

The arty one again

The regular shots

The chai, water and even “vada pav” in the hide. Samadhan’s logistics are well set.

After sitting in a hot humid hide for over 5 hours, finishing the day with some chilled Nimbu Soda.
