Its been a long break in birding. My last “outing” was to Karnala for the Heart Spotted Woodpecker , in Jan 2024. Five months and no birding or nature outing ! Today I was determined to go out somewhere and get some long needed “nature soak”. Easiest was to go and watch flamingos. End of May and they should be very pink and should have started to migrate back to Gujarat. Anyway, I took a chance. I matched tide and went out for a flamingo watch to the Seawoods area.
Seawoods pond was blocked out and had no water. However the pond on the east of the road, closer to Vashi was full and had mostly flamingo juveniles. I then went to TS Chankya and sure enough the birds were flying in. The best time is some 2 hours before high tide. High tide yesterday 01 June 2024 was at 1915H. I reached by 1630H and there were enough birds around. You can check the tide timings here ( https://www.tidetime.org/asia/india/bombay-india-calendar.htm ). Even at TS Chanakya the locals had stopped the water from coming in. No idea why they do this , but it is what it is. Maybe due to this, the usual courtship dance was started many times but didn’t continue for a longer time.
